first death case outside of China seen in Philippines
A 44-year-old died in the Philippines due to coronavirus. This was the first loss of life outside China in the outbreak that began to appear in late December.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the Chinese man, who is reported to be from Wuhan, China, has caught the virus before arriving in the Philippines.

Officials stated that the person who died was treated for pneumonia in the capital Manila for a while.

The Philippines Ministry of Health said the person who died was traveling from Wuhan to Manila via Hong Kong. The ministry stated that a 38-year-old Chinese woman also detected a virus.

Health Minister Francisco Duque said that the patient was stable and showed signs of improvement, but that his condition had gradually deteriorated in the past 24 hours, Rappler reported in the Philippines.
Duque added that they are trying to find people he has been in contact with, such as those who traveled on the same plane as the person who died and the employees of the hotel he stayed in.

WHO’s Philippines Representative Rabindra Abeyasinghe asked the public to remain calm.

However, it should not be forgotten that this is not a Philippines case. The patient who died was from the very center of this epidemic,” said Abeyasinghe.
